Trott inspires Bay to victory over Devonshire

Bailey’s Bay, 245, defeated Devonshire Rec. 170, by 75 runs.Rodney Trott virtually had things his own way at Sea Breeze Oval when he almost single-handedly led Bailey’s Bay to victory by hitting a ton and then destroying the visitors with a six-wicket haul. The brilliant all-round display saw Trott hammer the bowling with an innings of 115 and then turn around and tear the heart out of Devonshire’s batsmen when they seemed capable of making a challenging and spirited response. With the visitors comfortably placed on 82 for two Trott came on and grabbed two wickets in his first over and then followed this up with a hat-trick two overs later to finished with six for 15 off just seven overs. Trott getting support from his fielders who managed to pull off a few fine catches. Trott’s victims were Pierre Smith, Ricardo Brangman Jr., Dean Stevens, Derek and Lamont Brangman and Kameron Fox.Kyle Hodsoll lent a hand with two wickets for 48 off seven overs with a maiden. From 82 for two Devonshire slumped to 93 for seven with Trott dominating with his spin, the visitors having some early comfort from the bats of Steven Bremer (26), Pierre Smith 20 and Ricardo Brangman Jr. 29. Ricky Brangman Sr. (16) and tailender Herbie Bascome taking them to a respectable 150 with the latter doing so with some timely big hitting. But in the end the Bay attack had the last laugh with Bascome, limping with an injured leg, finally trapped lbw and the visitors all out in 37.3 overs.Earlier Bay suffered a concerning start when they lost their first two wickets for 19 and their third at 40 before century-maker Trott came and made his presence felt with a sterling knock highlighted by a 121-run fifth wicket stand featuring support at the other end from Cal Dill who struck 40.The dominant partner Trott struck 11 fours and four sixes while others contributing to the total were Ryan Steede with 15, skipper Stephen Outerbridge on 13 and Lateef Trott 12.Bay were eventually dismissed in 47.2 overs.
