Bay maintain unbeaten record

Premier 50 over pace setters Bailey’s Bay kept their unbeaten record intact after handing visiting Devonshire a five-wicket defeat in a low-scoring affair at Sea Breeze Oval yesterday.In a match reduced to 27 overs due to rain, Bay restricted the visitors to 115 for six and then replied with 118 for five.Kyle Hodsoll (four) scored the winning runs with a boundary off the first ball he faced from Jai-onni Outerbridge to see his team safely across the line with nearly three overs to spare.Bay stalwart Cal (Patches) Dill led the hosts’ run chase with 37 while skipper Stephen Outerbridge was next high man with 29 not outKameron Fox (two for 23) was the pick of Devonshire’s bowling.Earlier, Devonshire found themselves wobbling at 24 for four before timely knocks from Dean Richards (64) and Tori Henry (33) added some respectability to the visitors’ total, which was always going to be difficult to defend on the short boundaries at Sea Breeze Oval.Burton Outerbridge was Bay’s best bowler with figures of three for 15 off six overs that included a maiden.Bay are now unbeaten in seven outings so far this season in all competitions.Elsewhere yesterday, St David’s beat visiting Southampton Rangers by 81-runs in a low-scoring affair at Lords that was reduced to 40 overs due to inclement weather.The hosts posted 189 for nine in their allotted overs after being sent in to bat, with Delyone Borden (43), Justin Pitcher (41 not out) and Sammy Robinson (37) topping the batting.Next high man was the 24 extras Rangers gave away, including 15 wides.St David’s found themselves on the ropes at 104 for five and never really recovered as Rangers skipper Dion Stovell claimed three wickets in the space of four deliveries to finish with figures of three for 31.Seamer Christian Gibbons (two for 29) also held his end of the bargain as St David’s were restricted below the double century mark.Wicketkeeper Kwame Tucker executed three catches and a run out to cap a fine outing behind the stumps.In reply, Rangers were dismissed for 105 in 26.1 overs thanks to Rudell Pitcher’s superb five wicket haul.Pitcher claimed five for 26 and had two maidens during a mesmerising eight over spell bowling unchanged from the southern end of the ground.All-rounder Justin Pitcher (three for 23) and Robinson (two for 30) also delivered the goods with the ball as Rangers’ batsmen proved woefully unequal to the task at hand.Player/coach Janeiro Tucker led the visitors’ run chase with 35 before he was the last wicket to fall while Curtis Jackson chipped in with 25 at the top of the order.Yesterday’s remaining Premier 50 over contest saw Willow Cuts beat Cleveland by 25 runs in a match reduced to 27 overs due to rain at Somerset Cricket Club.Cuts scored 169 for four in their allotted overs after being asked to bat and then dismissed Cleveland for 144 in 26.4 overs.Chris Douglas blasted a half century (50) while Ricardo Brangman (35), assistant coach Dexter Basden (27) and skipper Dwight Basden (20 not out) chipped in with useful knocks.Allan Douglas Jr (two for 25) led the Cleveland bowling.In reply, Cleveland ultimately came up short in their run chase.Ramar Simmons left the Cleveland batting with 29 while Machai McGowan (27) and Douglas (15) also managed double figures before the visitors lost the plot.Fast bowler George O’Brien Jr was the pick of the Cuts’ bowling with superb figures of four for 22 off six overs. Kamal Bashir (three for 32) and Kevin Fubler (two for 18) also came good with the ball, sharing five wickets between to keep the pressure on the visitors.
