There’s still plenty of work to do, insists Outerbridge

Bailey’s Bay skipper Stephen Outerbridge insists the league leaders won’t get carried away with their impressive win over Southampton Rangers at Southampton Oval at the weekend. The victory continues the club’s unbeaten run this season and ensures they remain at the top of the Premier Division with a double-digit lead over second place Willow Cuts.Outerbridge (pictured) led from the front against Rangers, hitting an unbeaten 133 and along with Sinclair Smith added 130 runs for the third wicket to help keep their unblemished record in all competitions.Rather than take the plaudits for himself, Outerbridge hailed the victory as team effort and believes the commitment his team-mates have shown this season has made his job easier.“A true leader sets the example in which he wants his players to follow,” said Outerbridge. “However, he must a be able to listen to his players to ensure there is a collective effort and agreeable goals being met so no one is pulling away from the group.“As captain of Bay I just try to make sure that whenever my team needs a performance from me I execute accordingly but this is also what I expect from every player I play with.”Outerbridge’s innings included five sixes and nine fours to keep the visitors firmly on course for victory as they chased down 308 for victory.Bay were 305 for six at the cut off time, three runs shy of their target. But they were awarded 12 runs after Rangers were penalised for a slow bowling rate that was more than enough to guarantee the visitors victory.Outerbridge now tops the runs scoring charts, having amassed 302 runs so far in the league, and believes there’s still more to come from him this summer.“I don’t believe in form, if you get your mind right you get your game right,” he added.“I feel I’m in a good space right now and it’s always good to play with a team who believes in each other’s ability, funnily enough I play with players who are all related in some form or the other.“I think we will see at the end of the season (winning the league), but nevertheless I think it was a great team performance.“At the end of the day it’s another box ticked for the team so I’m sure we won’t get carried away.“Our fans will do all the celebrating for us until we attain our goals for the season.“Until then I really don’t know how important that win was on Sunday.”
