Outerbridge ton helps move Bay into top spot

Bailey’s Bay 223 all out beat Clevelend County 168 all out by 55 runsSkipper Stephen Outerbridge hammered a polished century and spinner Rodney Trott claimed five wickets to inspire Bailey’s Bay to a hard fought win over a gutsy Cleveland County at Sea Breeze Oval. The result coupled with St David’s’ win over Willow Cuts enabled unbeaten Bay to soar to the top of the Premier Division 50-Over standings.Outerbridge picked up where he left off in his previous outing against Southampton Rangers with a chanceless 103 from 110 deliveries that included ten boundaries and two sixes. The early order bat played a sensible innings and dominated two partnerships with Dennico Hollis (27) and Ryan Steede (11) that ultimately put the match beyond Cleveland’s reach.Outerbridge, who returned from the Gary Palmer Cricket Academy in England the night before, added 46 runs with Steede for the sixth wicket and a further 56 runs for the seventh with the diminutive Hollis after Bay elected to take first strike.Bay were eventually dismissed in the 49th over, leaving Cleveland to chase a target below 250 on a small field.Seamer Macai Young led the Cleveland attack with figures of three for 34 while fellow seamer Treadwell Gibbons Jr also claimed three wickets at a cost of 48 runs. Shakai Darrell, who had a fine all-round day, took two for 18.In reply, Cleveland found runs hard to come by against a disciplined Bay bowling attack that gave very little away.Off spinner Trott (five for 27) was virtually unplayable on a good track and was supported by seamer Steede who claimed three for 22 to hold his end of the bargain.Middle order bat Darrell led the Cleveland resistance with a battling 35 from 36 deliveries but found very little support from his colleagues further down the order. The all-rounder thumped three boundaries and two sixes and dominated stands of 27 with skipper Dennis Musson Jr and Young for the fourth and sixth wickets before the bottom fell out of Cleveland’s innings.Cleveland were dismissed in the 43rd over shortly after Darrell’s counter-attacking innings came to a grinding halt.Earlier, opening bat Jason Anderson gathered 34 from 77 balls in a knock that contained two fours and a six. The Cleveland wicketkeeper added 41 runs for the first wicket with Gibbons (23) and a further 45 runs for the second with Kian Butterfield (22) before Bay’s bowlers applied the brakes.Southampton Rangers 210 for four beat Devonshire Rec 209 all out by six wicketsVisiting Southampton Rangers recorded their second league win of the season after thrashing hosts Devonshire at the Den.Chasing 210 for victory, Rangers reached their winning target with plenty of wickets in hand and 72 balls to spare.Leading the visitors’ run chase was seasoned campaigner Curtis Jackson who smashed a boundary-filled 54 from 58 balls.Jackson feasted on the Devonshire bowling attack, belting four sixes and a four.
