CPL expands to seven teams

St Kitts and Nevis are set to join sides like the Barbados Tridents in the CPL

The Caribbean Premier League will expand to seven teams for this year’s competition.

St Kitts and Nevis have entered their own franchise in the competition after seeing the benefits of hosting several games last year, including the semi-finals and final.

According to government officials the CPL brought $26 million into the St Kitts and Nevis economy in 2014.

“Hosting the games highlighted that St Kitts and Nevis is home to some of the most passionate cricket fans in the region,” Glenn Phillip, the St Kitts and Nevis Minister of Sport, said.

“Having our own franchise team here will be a source of great pride for the people of St Kitts and Nevis while also benefiting local businesses, as fans from around the region and overseas make the journey to watch the games at the Warner Park Stadium.

“CPL is watched by millions of fans worldwide and with St Kitts and Nevis having its own team, it will allow us to showcase all that is great about our federation.”
