St David’s hope Fox takes post

Former St David's coach Smith

St David’s, the Premier Division champions, have still not confirmed a coach for the cricket season, with Graham Fox approached about the job which was vacated by Wendell Smith in November.

Fox was one of three former St George’s players on a shortlist to take on the role, the others being Dean Minors and Herbie Bascome who have both turned down the offer.

Otis Minors, the club president, confirmed yesterday that St David’s still had not appointed a replacement for Smith, who stood down for personal reasons and in February was appointed as coach of Western Stars.

“[Fox] was one of three names we were looking at in the early part of the year,” he said. “We haven’t appointed anybody yet, I wanted it done a long time ago.

“People seem to shy away from coaching the league champions.

“Herbie said no for personal reasons and I believe Dean declined due to work commitments.”
