Rawlins to take on India at Headingley
Delray Rawlins has been selected in a 12-man England and Wales Cricket Board XI for a 50-over match against India A at Emerald Headingley on Sunday.
The left-handed batsman, who scored a half-century for Sussex against Middlesex in a Second XI Trophy match last week, will join his Sussex team-mates Harry Finch and Ollie Robinson in the squad.
Rahul Dravid's India A team will face an ECB XI in the first match of their tour at Emerald Headingley on Sunday, as a result of Yorkshire's progress in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
India, who arrived in London last weekend and will practise at the Ageas Bowl — the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club — this week, had been scheduled to play Yorkshire in a 50-over match, one of two county fixtures before a Tri-Series against England Lions and West Indies A, which starts in Derby next Friday.
But Yorkshire have qualified for the play-offs of the Royal London One-Day Cup, and if they win at Essex tomorrow they will earn a semi-final away to Hampshire next Monday.
The ECB have therefore agreed with Yorkshire and India to provide alternative opposition at Headingley the previous day — and Jon Lewis, the former England and Sussex seam bowler and Sussex assistant head coach, who is now the head coach of the Young Lions programme, will take charge of the team.
The 12-man squad was selected from 11 of the 18 first-class counties — excluding the six still involved in the Royal London One-Day Cup and also Warwickshire, who play West Indies A in the opening match of their tour at Edgbaston on Sunday.
It includes five players who were involved on ECB Pathway Programmes last winter and also the North-South Series: former Bailey's Bay all-rounder Rawlins, Alex Davies, the Lancashire wicketkeeper-batsman, Zak Chappell, the Leicestershire seam bowler, Tom Barber, the Middlesex fast bowler, and Matt Critchley, the Derbyshire batsman.
