Rawlins and select XI suffer defeat

Bermudian Delray Rawlins scored 16 for ECB against India A

Delray Rawlins scored 16 runs and took one wicket in England Cricket Board XI’s 125-run defeat to India A at Emerald Headingley at the weekend.

The Sussex all-rounder faced 16 balls and struck three fours before being bowled by slow left-armer Axar Patal in the 50-over match — India’s first game of their tour to England.

India batted first after losing the toss, scoring 328 for eight, with opener Prithvi Shaw top scoring with 70 runs and Ishan Kishan hitting 50.

Rawlins dismissed Viay Shankar for 11 with Will Jacks taking the catch, as the Bermudian spinner bowled five overs for 33 runs. Seam bowler Ryan Higgins was the pick of the England bowlers, claiming four for 50 off his allotted ten overs.

In reply, England were dismissed for 203 off 36.5 overs, with seam bowler Deepak Chahar taking three for 48.

India A beat Leicestershire by 281 runs in a 50-over match at Grace Road yesterday in their final warm-up game before a Tri-Series against England Lions and West Indies A, which starts in Derby next Friday.

The touring side’s total of 458 for four was the third highest one-day total in history. Their total was the second highest, but England posted 481 for six against Australia at Trent Bridge later on yesterday.
