BCB cancel Super 8 tournament

The inaugural Super 8 Festival Weekend has been cancelled because of a lack of interest in the two-day event from the local clubs.

The BCB had hoped to generate an environment much like the Eastern Counties, offering plots for purchase for $100 for both days of the tournament, which was scheduled for Sea Breeze Oval this weekend.

It would have involved eight teams, each fielding eight players in eight-over matches.

Lloyd Smith, BCB president, hopes the tournament will be held next season.

“I am particularly heartened by the excitement and interest this event has created in the public which has validated the concept conclusively,” Smith said.

“Nevertheless, the clubs have not been able to organise their teams for the planned dates, therefore we are postponing the event to a date to be determined in 2019.

“I look forward to a spectacular fun-filled family event with all our best players next year.”

It is anticipated that the final round of Twenty20 matches, set for September 16, or the Champion of Champions competition on September 22 and 23 will be brought forward.
