Rawlins ends county season on a pair

Bermudian Delray Rawlins fell for a second duck in Sussex's three-day Specsavers County Championship Division Two match against Northamptonshire as the home side sealed a six-wicket victory inside two days at the County Ground in Northampton.

Rawlins, who was batting at No 7 in each innings in the final championship match of the season, was caught first ball at gully in the first innings as Sussex, batting after winning the toss, were dismissed for just 118 in 35.1 overs.

Laurie Evans was the high man for Sussex with 34 as new-ball pair Ben Sanderson and Brett Hutton claimed four for 32 and three for 41 respectively. Ben Cotton took two for ten.

Northamptonshire replied with 171 to lead by 53 runs, thanks to a last-wicket stand of 60 between Cotton, who made 24 not out, and No 11 Sanderson, who hit 36. Opener Curran also scored 36.

In their second innings, Sussex were dismissed for 222, with Rawlins bowled third ball by an away swinger that knocked back his off stump.

Opener Luke Wells scored 50, Harry Finch 63 and Chris Jordan 47, with Cotton again outstanding with the ball, claiming five for 48 from 14 overs.

Northamptonshire, set 170 to win, replied with 172 for four in 37.1 overs, with Curran leading the way with 83 and wicketkeeper Adam Rossington 51 not out.

Flat finish: Delray Rawlins was out third ball yesterday to collect his first pair as a professional
