Rangers on course to defend title

Southampton Rangers beat St George's by 97 runs in a One Premier Division 50 Overs match at Southampton Oval on Sunday to remain firmly on course to defending their title.

Led by knocks from player-coach Janeiro Tucker (35), captain Dion Stovell (33), Malachi Jones (32) and Deunte Darrell (32), Rangers posted 206 all out in 43.1 overs after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Charles Trott (12) and Lamont Brangman (18) were the remaining Rangers batsmen in double figures.

The home side were pegged back at 59 for three in the thirteenth over but recovered to post a total well beyond St George's reach.

Misheal Paynter was the pick of the visiting side's bowling with three for 53, while Herbie Bascome, the Bermuda coach, and his son Oronde Bascome claimed two wickets each.

In reply, St George's were dismissed for 109 in 30.2 overs with middle-order batsman Oronde Bascome top scoring with 30.

Onias Bascome, the team's captain, scored 18 and Paynter hit 21.

Jones claimed four for 23 to lead the Rangers attack and complete a superb all-round display with bat and ball. Tucker and Trott bagged two wickets each.

In the other remaining top-flight matches, Flatts Victoria beat St David's by five wickets at Lord's in the second meeting between the teams in as many days, while Cleveland County thrashed Bailey's Bay by 115 runs at Wellington Oval.
