Delray Rawlins’ Sussex win opening Vitality Blast match in Bristol

Delray Rawlins and his Sussex team-mates picked up a five-wicket win in their opening Vitality Blast Twenty20 match in Bristol yesterday, replying to Gloucestershire’s 177 for seven with 178 for five after 17.2 overs.

Rawlins, batting at No 5, was out for nine, sweeping and skying a catch to long leg. That was the fourth Sussex wicket to fall, at 52 for four after just 5.3 overs.

Phil Salt, the Sussex opener, was then joined by George Garton in a fifth wicket stand of 92 that took the score to 144 after 14.3 overs when Garton fell for 46 from 25 balls, hitting two fours and three sixes.

Salt was not out on 77 off 49 balls with eight fours and two sixes while Chris Jordan was not out on 24 off a four and two sixes.

Rawlins held two catches in the Gloucestershire innings as Garton led their bowling with three for 19 off four overs.

Sussex return home to play their second match today against Hampshire.
