Worcestershire pile on the runs against Rawlins and Sussex

Delray Rawlins: Failed to take a wicket from eight overs against Worcestershire on day one yesterday

Delray Rawlins failed to take any wickets as hosts Worcestershire posted 338-5 in 96 overs on the opening day of their LV= County Championship Division Two match at the New Road Ground yesterday.

Rawlins, who gave up 32 runs in his first four-over spell, finished with figures of 0 for 42 from eight overs as Sussex fought hard to contain the Worcestershire batsmen after they won the toss and elected to bat.

Captain Tom Haines led the Sussex bowlers with three for 46 from 17 overs after openers Ed Pollock (77) and Jake Libby (11) put on 85 for the first wicket in 17 overs.

Brett D’Oliveira, the Worcestershire captain, led their batting with 106 not out at No 5, facing 230 balls in 308 minutes and hitting twelve fours.

Pollock’s 77 came off 74 balls in 84 minutes and included 14 fours and a six.

D’Oliveira and Ed Barnard (75) put on 166 for the fifth wicket in taking the score from 133-4 to 299-5 when Bernard was dismissed.

His 75 included 11 fours off 144 balls.
