St George’s Cup Match hopefuls make first impressions

Cup Match hopefuls made their first attempts at impressing the selectors when the St George’s Cricket Club held their first trial match at Wellington Oval on Saturday.

The match between the President’s XI and Vice-President’s XI ended in a draw, with the Vice-President’s XI scoring 256 for nine and the President’s XI replying with 217 for seven at the close.

Opener Ajuan Lamb proved the high man for the Vice-President’s XI scoring 47, coming off 65 balls and including six fours and a six.

Middle-order batsman Drewonde Bascome and tailender Rohan Richards both scored 42 while wicketkeeper Temiko Wilson added 40.

Bascome hit six fours while Richards hit six fours and a six batting at No 10.

Logan Jones claimed three for 27 off seven overs for the President’s XI while spinners Isaiah Greaves and Nzari Paynter took two for 40 and two for 27 respectively.

The President’s XI reached 217 for seven off 47.4 overs when the match ended, with veteran Treadwell Gibbons the high man with 40 off 41 balls and included six fours.

Opener Coolidge Durham scored 36 and No 3 bat Q’Shai Darrell 32 before Detroy Smith and wicketkeeper Jarryd Richardson added 27 and 24 in the middle order. George O’Brien led the Vice-President’s bowling with two for 31.

The only other trial match for the challengers will be the final match on July 23. Cup Match is scheduled for July 28 and 29 at Somerset Cricket Club.
