St David’s extended their winning start in the Athene T20 First Division to four games after winning a rain-affected match on Sunday.

St David’s, who were defending a challenging 178 for six, had Rec 50 for two after 11 overs when the game was stopped just after 1.30pm because of rain.

At 2.30pm, and with the second match between Bailey’s Bay and St George’s scheduled to start at 3pm, the match officials called off the match and awarded St David’s the win on average run-rate — 8.90 to 4.55.

Openers Ajuan Lamb and Ricardo Brangman both scored 36 for St David’s as they put on 58 for the first wicket when Brangman was dismissed. He faced 18 balls and hit four sixes and a four.

Lamb, fourth out on 101, scored his runs off 27 balls with two fours and two sixes before George O’Brien Jr led the batting with a boundary-filled knock of 40 from 25 balls. Batting at No 5, the all-rounder blasted three sixes and three fours before he was bowled by Dion Ball on 156 for five.

Ball finished with two for 21 from his four overs, while captain Rudell Pitcher, a former St David’s player, took two for 26.

Rec were making slow progress in their run chase when the rain stopped play after 11 overs. Openers Tariq Jennings and Dervin Adams scored 28 and 21 respectively in an opening stand of 42 in 9.3 overs when Adams was stumped by Ricardo Brangman off O’Brien’s bowling after hitting three fours.

Jennings was then trapped leg-before by Derrick Brangman, after hitting three fours and a six.
