Seth Campbell runs through Warwick to get Western Stars back on track

White Hill Field (Western Stars won toss): Western Stars beat Warwick by seven wickets

Western Stars made light work of Warwick as they romped to victory in the fifth round of the Athene T20 Premier Division on Sunday.

The Stars bowlers, especially Seth Campbell, were in destructive mood as they bowled out Warwick for a below-par total of 64 runs in 16.2 overs.

Seth Campbell picked up four wickets as Western Stars dominated Warwick

Warwick were sent in and had a miserable start with Malachi Jones, their most experienced player, the only batter to offer any resistance. He was forced to bat maturely as wickets fell cheaply around him before the shine was off the ball. He would eventually be sixth man out with a team and game-high 32 from a patient 30 balls as the Stars bowlers denied any fruitful partnerships to develop.

Stars, who suffered their second league defeat by defending champions St George’s the day before, had Warwick reeling with eight wickets back in the pavilion and less than 50 runs on the board, including three for ducks.

Tailender Omar DeShields was the last out and the only other batter to make double figures with ten as Warwick were skidded out for their low score. Campbell had standout figures of four wickets for 11 runs while Brian Hall had three for eight, which included the wicket of Jones.

“Although my shoulder has been bothering me, I felt pretty good today,” stated a confident Campbell. “The wicket was playing a bit low to start, but it’s too bad that I could only bowl four overs. I was enjoying the outing.”

In defence of their small total, Warwick had a dream start when Hall was bowled for a duck in the first over by Jamar Stovel. Tre Manders joined Jaiden Manders and the two would carry the team to the brink of victory with a healthy 43-run partnership — but not before Tre Manders was given a life when he was badly dropped by wicketkeeper Ajani Lee with the score on 12 and Manders on three.

Jaiden Manders would be the second wicket to fall as he tried to clear the ropes at long-off, only to be caught by Cory Burgess off the bowling of captain Staphen Dill for 22.

Tre Manders would finish unbeaten on 24 as he and Jason Anderson passed the target in only 11.2 overs.

Stovel was the pick of Warwick’s bowlers with one for 13 from three overs.
