White Hill Field (Cleveland won toss): Cleveland beat Warwick by three wickets.

Cleveland bounced back to winning ways in the Athene T20 League Premier Division with a three-wicket victory over Warwick in a low-scoring affair at White Hill Field yesterday.

In truth Cleveland made hard work of what looked destined to be a straightforward victory, having restricted Warwick to just 73-8 from their allotted overs before finding themselves at 56-3 after 9.2 overs.

However, that third wicket triggered a batting collapse, which saw for a further four wickets fall, three to Luke Fulton, with just two runs added in the space of two overs, threatening to derail Cleveland’s innings.

Despite the major wobble, Dennis Musson Jr (8 not out) and Kioshi Trott (4 not out) managed to see Cleveland over the line to finish on 74-7 from 17.1 overs.

Having been put into bat, Warwick got off to a steady start with opener Malachi Jones (21) and Jahcobi Butterfield adding a quickfire 23 off 1.5 overs before the former fell to the bowling of Makai Young.

A collapse followed with Butterfield (4) run out and Kyle Swan (0) dismissed three runs added to the total over the space of two and half overs.

Cory Burgess (16) helped settle the innings slightly helping the total to 45 before he was caught off the bowling of Mackih McGowan, with Jamar Stovel (3) and Ajani Lee (2) following in the space of another two overs with just a further four runs on the total which stood at 49-6.

AI Ible (7) and Kian Butterfield (0) both failed to make a significant contribution leaving Warwick reeling at 64-8 with a little more than two overs left.

Luke Horan (8 not out) and Fulton (5 not out) saw out the remaining overs as a total of 73-8 was set.

Young was the pick of the bowlers with figures of two for 18, with Tybrae Robinson also impressing with two for 19. McGowan, Q'Shai Darrell and Musson Jr took a wicket apiece.

In reply, Cleveland appeared to be cruising as openers Darrell (17) and McGowan (23) took their side to 40 runs before both were dismissed off the bowling of Fulton and Jones respectively, in the space of four deliveries with the total at 44-2 after five overs.

From a point of relative calmness, the innings very quickly got thrown into chaos with Steven Bremar Jr (6), Makai Young (6), Kristian Singh (0), Bryce Daniels (0) and Ramar O’Brien (0), all coming and going in frantic spell in which Fulton took three of the wickets to complete a four-wicket haul, leaving Cleveland on 58-7 after 11.4 overs.

Despite an incredibly low number of runs over the next five overs, Musson Jr (8 not out) and Kioshi Trott (4 not out) managed to hold their nerve and help Cleveland knock off the required runs to seal a welcome victory.
