Allan Douglas Jr and Macai Simmons help St George’s maintain fine form

St George’s continued their fine form in the Athene T20 League Premier Division with an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Southampton on Saturday.

Having put Southampton into bat, St George’s restricted their opponents to just 91-7 from their allotted 20 overs, with Allan Douglas ripping through the batter order to finish with impressive figures of five for nine.

Dalin Richardson was the pick of the Southampton batsman with 42.

The reply proved straightforward with St George’s knocking off the required runs in just 10.4 overs in their total of 94-2. Macai Simmons (54 not out) led the way and was supported by Treadwell Gibbons (24 not out) after Douglas (0) and Temiko Wilson (10) had been dismissed without making a telling contribution.

Western Stars continued their push for a top-three finish after overcoming struggling Cleveland in a five-wicket success.

After being put into bat, Cleveland set a total of 117-6 from their allotted overs, in which Courtney Trott was the top scorer with 25. Brian Hall starred with the ball for Stars, picking up a four-wicket haul, giving up just 18 runs in the process.

In reply, Tre Manders’ top knock of 47 help guide his side to the required target in 17.4 overs. Mackih McGowan was the pick of the Cleveland bowlers, taking two wickets.

Somerset picked up a welcome victory, beating Warwick by 23 runs.

Having been put into bat, Somerset reached 112-6 from their 20 overs, with Alje Richardson (48) proving the pick of the batsman.

Luke Horan took three wickets, given up just 11 runs in the process, while Luke Fulton also impressed with the ball, finishing with figures of two for 16.

In reply, Warwick could only muster 89 for the loss of seven wickets as Cory Burgess proved the pick of the attack with 19.

With the ball, Dominic Sabir ended with impressive figures of three for two, with Jordan DeSilva also taking two wickets.

In the First Division, promoted St David’s secured a 43-run victory over Somerset Bridge.

Having elected to bat, Ajuan Lamb (51) and Derrick Brangman (35 not out) helped St David’s to a total of 148-5 from their allotted overs.

Noel Woods was the pick of the Somerset Bridge bowlers with figures of two for 16.

In reply, Bridge could only reach 105 from their allotted overs, with Jason Smith (27) and Shane Hollis (26) the only batsman to make a significant contribution.

Justin Pitcher did the most damage with the ball, picking up a three-wicket haul and given up just six runs in the process. Brangman and Isaiah O'Brien took two wickets apiece.
