St David’s (Warwick Workmen’s won the toss) St. David’s won by 25 runs

Ricardo Brangman may have received his share of luck but his half-century helped propel St. David’s to their first win of the season in the BCB 50 Overs Premier Division on Sunday.

In a match cut down to 30 overs apiece because of a wet pitch following persistent rain on the island, Brangman, in to bat at No 3, top scored with 53 off 50 deliveries.

His knock combined with a late flurry of runs from his brother Derrick took St. David’s to 167 for 4 in 30 overs with Warwick bowled out for 142 in 29.2 overs in their reply.

St David’s struggled to score runs after losing the toss and were asked to have first use of the batting track. They were scoring at just overs three runs an over when Shannon Rayner was dismissed by Luke Horan for 18 off 30 deliveries.

McLaren Lowe and Brangman repaired the damage with a 57-run partnership for the second wicket, but the two were fortunate to get second chances after both were dropped in the seventeenth over, with the latter in particular making sure their opponents were punished for the missed opportunities.

It eventually took a fine catch on the boundary by Omari DeShields, off the bowling of Kwasi Jones, to get rid of Brangman in the 27th over.

When his brother departed, Derrick made sure that St David’s had a decent score to defend with some lusty blows at the end of the innings. His unbeaten 42 came off 32 deliveries and contained four fours and two sixes. Mikkail Crockwell also hit 13, including two sixes, to finish with 13 not out.

Warwick's run chase got off to a terrible start with DeShields dismissed for a three-ball duck by Cejay Outerbridge. Malachi Jones top scored for them with a fighting 45 off 39 deliveries and Stephen Dill contributed 25 from 13 balls, but the pressure kept mounting with three of their batsmen run out.

Brangman, whose half century was his first of the season was delighted with the win after a tough few weeks where things have not gone their way.

“The win does a lot for the team,” he said. “We had a couple of bad games, but this one brings us back up and with Eastern Counties coming up soon, we should be ready.

“Everything was just working out today, we cut down the extras, we had more partnerships, a lot rotation of the strike and a lot of singles, so it worked out for us

“It feels good to get an easy win. We had rough start to the season and we are just getting back in. A lot of the guys are just coming back but it was good to get a win that keeps us up.”

St. David’s have all but secured their place in the league with that victory and will be looking to finish the season strongly as they face struggling Southampton Rangers in their last match, while Warwick have still to win with four defeats and a no result in their five matches.
