St George’s have been drawn to play against Cleveland County in the quarter-finals of the Knockout Cup to be played this weekend.

The draw for the last eight was conducted by the Bermuda Cricket Board offices yesterday and there is no doubt that the biggest fixture for this round is between the teams that finished second and third respectively in the Premier Division 50 Overs League.

With just one round of fixtures for the league, the two never got to play each other with their match producing a no-result because of rain. Now, they will square off for a place in the last four where a winner must be produced, even by means of a coin toss in case inclement weather.

St George’s, runners-up to Bailey’s Bay in the Premier Division needed a courageous knock from captain Onias Bascome, who struck an unbeaten 163 off 110 balls to dig them out of a hole and overcome Flatts Victoria by 59 runs. For Cleveland, theirs was a convincing victory by 151 runs over Southampton Rangers as they came back strongly after losing out on the league title to Bay.

Bailey’s Bay and Devonshire Rec, who both had first-round byes, will square off while Somerset take on West End rivals Willow Cuts.

Western Stars, triumphant by three wickets over Warwick, meet St David’s in the remaining match.

The Bermuda Cricket Board is expected to announce the venues for the four matches by Friday.
