Somerset Cricket Club (Willow Cuts won toss): Somerset beat Willow Cuts by nine wickets

Dominic Sabir scored a rapid 44 off 24 balls to guide Somerset to their first win in the Athene T20 Premier Division.

Sabir, in to bat at No 3, hit two sixes and four fours to form a 67-run partnership with opener Chris Douglas, with Somerset reaching 97 for one in 9.2 overs to win the match with 64 balls to spare.

Kamau Leverock’s was the only wicket to fall as he departed for 27 off just nine deliveries, having smacked three sixes and one four in his brief stay at the crease.

Cuts, who are still to win a T20 match this season could manage only 95 for nine in 20 overs after they won the toss and chose to bat.

Antonio Darrell top scored with 39, but Somerset’s bowling attack was just too good for Cuts, with all six bowlers used getting at least one wicket.

“I think that I batted well considering that only one wicket fell for us,’’ Sabir said.

“It was a low total to chase, especially on this small field, but Kamau and Chris started off nicely, set the platform, then I was able to come in and finish it. Not too much pressure on us today.

“I am more recognised as the guy that normally hits outside, but today with just a small total and to be able to lose one wicket, staying there and knocking the ball around was all-right. We needed just five an over, so I think we did pretty good.

Joseph Basden, the Cuts captain, said: “We came out with a younger squad and we expected some difficulties, but it was a good day and everybody had fun.”
