Alex Dore and Jaiden Manders make their cases in Somerset trial
Two players aiming to break into Somerset’s winning Cup Match team top scored with the bat in the final trial on Saturday.
Alex Dore, who plays for Southampton Rangers, hit 57 and Jaiden Manders scored 44 as the President’s XI made 183 in 61.4 overs.
Manders opened alongside Chris Douglas, who is in Cup Match contention after his suspension for showing dissent towards an umpire was deemed to have been fulfilled in the Eastern Counties first round, but Somerset’s opener was not at the crease for too long after being run out for two.
Greg Maybury, Nirobi Smith-Mills, Jermal Proctor and Derrick Brangman all picked up two wickets.
In response, the Vice-President’s XI made 113 for eight in 44.4 overs, with Sharye Tavares, who made a controversial late switch to try out for Somerset after being named in St George’s final teams, top scoring with 31.
Macquille Walker, who claimed six wickets in the Eastern Counties first round, picked up the wickets of Dominic Sabir and Khiry Furbert on his way to figures of two for 24, with Malachi Jones and Alje Richardson also getting two victims apiece.
