Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club (USA won toss): USA beat Bermuda by seven wickets

Luke Horan’s all-round exploits proved not enough to save Bermuda’s campaign at the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Americas Qualifier, in Canada, with defeat to the United States leaving them with no chance of qualifying.

Horan, who came in to bat at six, top scored with 30 runs off 65 balls, but it was to come in a disappointing innings for Bermuda who were dismissed for 115 runs in 41.5 overs, having lost the toss and been sent into bat.

Building on his encouraging batting display, Horan also claimed two wickets for just 16 runs from his three overs, but he could not prevent the US cantering to victory, as they successfully reached their target in just 11.1 overs, for the loss of just three wickets.

Prannav Chettipalayam led the way, top scoring on 60 from 34 balls, before being dismissed by Dionte Dowling, while Bhavya Mehta offered able support with a swift 26 from 16 balls.

Captain Rishi Ramesh chipped in with 11, while Arjun Mahesh (five not out) and Utkarsh Srivastava (four not out) saw out the innings.

It was Bermuda’s third loss of the campaign and left them on two points in the standings with no mathematical chance of making it to next year’s tournament in Sri Lanka.

Two matches remain for Bermuda, as they go up against Canada tomorrow, before facing Argentina on Friday.

Elsewhere, Canada recorded their fourth straight win with an eight-wicket thrashing of Argentina.

The hosts bowled out Argentina for just 37 in 10.2 overs, before chasing down the target in 3.3 overs.

Canada, top the standings with eight points, ahead of the US on six. The two teams meet on Friday.
