Eastern Counties champions Bailey’s Bay have rallied support around former club captain Noel Gibbons, who remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

Gibbons, who serves as the Sea Breeze Oval club’s chairman of selectors, was admitted to hospital on September 6.

“Noel Gibbons, a legend of Baileys Bay Cricket Club, has always been someone who faced challenges on the cricket pitch with unwavering determination and perseverance,” read a club statement.

“The Bailey's Bay family have no doubt that he will approach his current battle with the same spirit of strength and resilience.

“On behalf of the executive, membership and BBCC community and cricket fraternity, we send our love, and well wishes to him every step of the way and also extend support and heartfelt thoughts to Noel's family.

“We encourage Noel to stay strong and eagerly await his return to the Bailey's Bay Cricket Club.”

The former all-rounder is regarded as one of the most talented players to ever grace the local cricket scene, representing Bermuda on the international stage and St George’s in the annual Cup Match.

Gibbons is the father of Bay all-rounder Sharye Tavares, who has impressed as a top-order batter and off-spin bowler this season.
