Bermuda to face Brazil in T20 World Cup qualifying opener
Bermuda will square off against Brazil in their opening match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Americas Sub-Regional Qualifier at North Field, National Sports Centre, on June 21.
The two nations will face each other in the second match of a Father’s Day double-header, with the game set to start at 3pm. That match will be preceded by the clash between Bahamas and Belize, who open the tournament at 10am.
Action continues the next day with Bermuda taking on Belize in the morning match and Brazil doing battle with Panama in the afternoon session. June 23 has been designated as a rest day.
Play then resumes on June 24 with Panama taking on Bahamas in the morning and Brazil locking horns with Belize in the afternoon fixture.
Bermuda will be back in action against Panama on June 25 in the first match of the day with Brazil facing Bahamas in the second before the second rest day of the tournament takes place on June 26.
Bermuda will then close out of their campaign against Bahamas in their final group match on June 27.
Bermuda will be hoping to capitalise on home advantage in the tournament, which forms part of the qualification pathway for the World Cup in 2028 and will feature five competing nations from across the Americas region.
Only the group winner of the round-robin competition will advance to the next stage.
“The tournament will bring together teams from across the Americas region for a week of international competition while creating opportunities to celebrate Bermuda’s culture, community and love of cricket through a series of themed event days,” the Bermuda Cricket Board said in a press release.
“The tournament opens on Sunday, 21 June, with a special Opening Day Celebration recognising both Bermuda Day and Father’s Day, creating an opportunity for families to attend together and enjoy an exciting day of cricket and community.
“Supporters are encouraged to attend throughout the week and help create a memorable atmosphere as Bermuda welcomes the Americas cricket community.”
