Dominic Sabir blasted the season’s highest individual score and claimed three wickets to power Somerset to a 174-run victory against Willow Cuts in a west end Premier Division 50 Overs derby at Somerset Cricket Club on Sunday.

The talented all-rounder hammered 150 from 103 balls, lashing eight sixes and 14 boundaries as the home side piled up 366 for seven after electing to take first strike.

Sabir came to the crease in the thirteenth over with Somerset poised at 99 for three and after getting his sight in, he put the Cuts attack to the sword with some punishing stroke play.

He reached his fifty off 38 balls, his century off 74 and 150 off 101 before offering a return catch to Sergio Raynor to bring an end to his aggressive knock.

Sabir dominated a 190-run sixth-wicket partnership with Antonio Darrell, who thumped 64 from 88 balls, that laid the foundation for Somerset’s total which proved well beyond Cuts’ reach.

JJ Nel (22), Amari Ebbin (42), wicketkeeper Zerai Tomlinson (19) and all-rounder Brianna Ray (25 not out) were also among the runs for the home side.

Wayne Ball Jr (two for 42) was the pick of the bowling for Cuts, who leaked 42 in extras, including 28 wides.

Having inflicted heavy damage with the bat, Sabir also made a huge impact with the ball, claiming three for 24 to finish as Somerset’s chief wickettaker along with fellow all-rounder Kwasi James (three for 36).

Janeiro Tucker, the Somerset player/coach, chipped in with two for 35 as Cuts were dismissed for 192 in 32 overs.

Captain Ras Solomon Burrows topped the Cuts batting with 76 from 68 balls, which included four sixes and eight fours.

Sabir has been in sparkling form lately after leading unbeaten Pembroke Panthers to Bermuda Smash Invitational glory and finishing as the tournament’s top run getter with 229 runs under his belt.

He was also part of the winning Bermuda squad at the ICC T20 World Cup Americas Sub-qualifer last week.
