It was a good day in the middle for the Manders cousins, Tre and Jaiden, as they notched up half-centuries on opposite ends during the Somerset final trial on Saturday.

Tre recorded 79 runs, from 64 balls, for the President’s XI, before he became one of Dominic Sabir’s four wickets. His effort helped his team to post 190 in 42.2 overs.

Jaiden then stroked 82, off 34 balls, before he was run out as the Vice-President’s XI reached their target with three wickets down in 37.5 overs.

“It must have been a menacing wicket today,” Tre told The Royal Gazette.

“The wicket is actually playing a lot better than it was in training but obviously that's the Cup Match wicket, so it's just as expected.

“I just wanted to feel the middle of the bat and it worked well for me. Any batsman that gets settled into that type of wicket will definitely get a big score.”

Jaiden, who was dropped after getting 50, feasted on some short deliveries bowled by Macquille Walker, with the pull shot working effectively for the opening batter.

The left-hander put on 131 for the first wicket with JJ Nel, who made 47 runs after being dropped early in his innings.

“I felt good out in the middle,” the 25-year-old said.

“I always knew Somerset had a good track as I’ve been training up for a couple of weeks. So I knew if I just came here and applied myself, I knew the runs would come.

“I felt really consistent today with my shot making. I did offer a chance, but I had made about 50 or 60 at that stage and I just kept going.

“It’s unfortunate I got run out, but I’m more than thankful for the runs that I contributed to the team because it was something I wanted to do for a while.

Somerset coach Janeiro Tucker felt that the Vice-President’s XI stuck to the team’s strategy.

“I thought the second team was much better in applying the game plan,” he said.

“I thought the first team played too many rushed shots, but that’s just how cricket is. You have to remember that we’re in T20 mode when it comes to cricket in general in most parts of the world.

“Everybody wants to just hit the boundary. But now we have to think about the long version of the game, which is hard for Bermuda, because we don’t really play a lot of long version cricket.”
