Cameron Jeffers got the better of compatriot Chare Smith after the Bermuda cricketers faced off against each other in the West of England Premier League at the weekend.

Jeffers and his Bristol West Indian Phoenix Cricket Club team-mates defeated Smith’s Frenchay Cricket Club by 30 runs at the latter’s Bob Stone Ground last Saturday.

Bristol West Indian Phoenix Cricket Club were dismissed for 185 in 41.1 overs after electing to bat, with captain and wicketkeeper Vishal Mamgai scoring 74 from 92 balls.

Jeffers managed one run from 12 balls lower down the order, while national team seamer Smith claimed one for 28 during a six-over spell with the new ball.

The hosts were costly in the field as they leaked 40 extras, including 26 wides.

Frenchay were then dismissed for 155 in 40.2 overs in reply, with early-order batter Akshat Krishna scoring 30 from 47 balls, while tailender Smith went for a five-ball duck.

Rushabh Yadav was the pick of the visitors’ bowling with four for 28, while leg spinner Jeffers claimed two for 25.

Jeffers plays for Bailey’s Bay and Smith for their Eastern Counties rivals St David’s when on island.
