White Hill Field (Flatts won toss): Somerset Bridge beat Flatts by seven wickets

Somerset Bridge produced the First Division season’s biggest upset when they defeated fancied Flatts Victoria by seven wickets in the First Division 40 Overs Knockout Cup semi-final on Saturday.

The improbable result earned the west end club a berth in the final of the First Division 40 Overs Knockout competition on Sunday, when they will face top seed Cleveland County.

Despite entering the match as the tournament’s lowest-seeded participant, Bridge were unbowed, dismantling the visitors’ top order and forcing their opponents on the defensive early.

Within the space of the first nine overs, Bridge had Flatts on the back foot at 24 for three. Gone cheaply were openers Logan Jones (four) and Jermaine Clark (eight), along with veteran Treadwell Gibbons Jr (12).

In at No 4, Dajon Carey (29) found a willing accomplice in Reginald Baker (36), with the pair able to engage a 33-run fourth-wicket partnership, before the former fell to the off-spin of Joshua Gilbert.

A secondary collapse ensued and even as Nelson Bascome (14 not out) was able to hang around in the late order, none other could duplicate his resilience, as Flatts capitulated, being all out for 138.

Young Henrik McIntosh was the chief destroyer of the Flatts batting line-up, as he returned figures of four for 24 from seven overs. He was most aided by Noel Woods, whose gentle medium pace accounted for three wickets.

Meanwhile, Patrick Dill (55 not out) picked the right time to find his best form with the bat, registering a patient, unbeaten half-century.

Dill and veteran Shawn Riley (32) got the home team off to the best of starts, notching 56 for the first wicket.

The further losses of Adrian Burrows (one) and Gilbert (13) placed Bridge at 108 for three, still well within striking distance.

Strike they did, suffering no further loss, as Dill and Jason Smith (19not out ) allowed them to canter home to the win.

Wellington Oval (Cleveland won toss): Cleveland County beat PHC by 41 runs

First Division champions Cleveland marched into the final with a workmanlike performance against PHC at Wellington Oval.

Stand-in captain Steven Bremar Jr led from the front with a bruising half-century that deserved to have been converted.

Bremar was in full song, as he treated PHC’s attack with disdain, smashing eight sixes and five fours in a 67-ball knock of 89. The No 3 put on 120 for the third wicket with Kioshi Trott (25), taking the score to 158 for three after the team had stumbled to 38 for two.

However, if PHC thought they had turned the tables with the dismissals of Bremar and Clay Darrell (zero), they were mistaken as Makai Young and Dennis Musson (12) extended matters via a 66-run sixth-wicket partnership that put Cleveland on the way to a final tally of 244.

Jahmari Beach was PHC’s best bowler with three for 33, while Koshun Durrant and Kezie Richardson grabbed two for one and two for 47 respectively.

Turning to bat, PHC made a gallant effort, particularly through opening batter Davin Dill, who anchored the visitors’ innings with a determined knock of 61, but his run out at a critical stage ultimately scuppered his side’s chances of reaching the required target.

Aside from Dill, only Sage Carter (24) and Bryce Daniels (29) made meaningful contributions as PHC could manage only 203 for nine.

Q’Shai Darrell was Cleveland’s leading bowler, taking three for 21, while Mcaiz Trott weighed in with three for 38 and Musson two for 29.
