Residents are urged to take precautions against burglars

Residents have been reminded to lock doors and windows following a spate of residential burglaries.

“We have come to realise that this could be contributed to the summer season and the need to have ventilation in homes,” said a police spokesman.

“Thieves are generally opportunists looking for an easy target.”

Commons mistakes which leave homeowners open to theft include leaving windows and doors open for ventilation with just the screens closed, no proper lighting around the house after dusk and not cancelling mail delivery when leaving the Island on vacation, the spokesman added.
