Manhunt continues after fugitive evades Police — again

A man on the run from police for more than two weeks managed to evade capture this afternoon — but two people have now been arrested on suspicion of harbouring a fugitive.Howard Ascento escaped custody on September 6 after being given a jail sentence in Magistrates’ Court for traffic offences. A manhunt was launched by police, but Ascento has managed to evade capture ever since.This afternoon police confirmed that Ascento was spotted in the Upland Road area of Devonshire, but again managed to slip his captors.A police spokesman said: “At 2:45pm the joint team of officers from Department of Corrections and Bermuda Police were on patrol looking for fugitive Howard Ascento in the area of Upland Road in Devonshire. As police approached the residence the suspect made good his escape in the surrounding area.“As a result, a 26 year old male and a 28 year old female were arrested for harbouring a the fugitive and a court appearance is expected in the near future.“It is clear that members of the public have aiding and abetting Ascento and anyone found doing so will be arrested and put before the courts.”All sighing of Ascento should be reported to police on 2950011.
