Suspect with stab wounds hospitalised

A teenaged burglary suspect received stab wounds to the torso and leg in an altercation outside a Middle Road, Southampton residence on Tuesday night, Police have confirmed this morning.

The suspect, an 18-year-old Sandys parish male, was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the King Edward Memorial Hospital this morning.

Police have also confirmed that two residents were involved in the incident outside their home, and were also injured — a 50 year-old-man and his 24 year-old-son.

They were treated at the hospital and later discharged.

The incident occurred at a residence off Middle Road in Southampton, by the Railway Trail in Granaway Heights, and initial reports were that two people suffered stab wounds.

Emergency services had been called to a reported burglary at the home at 9.10pm last night.

“It appears that an altercation took place outside the premises between an alleged male intruder and two male residents of the home, resulting in the suspect and one of the residents sustaining stab wounds,” a Police spokesman said last night, adding that the suspect’s injuries were not believed to be life threatening, although they had initially been thought to be more serious.

Witnesses or persons with information are urged to call Police on 295-0011 or the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline 800-8477.
