An 18-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a stabbing and robbery at the weekend.

Police said a second man had also been interviewed in connection with the incident, which left a 16-year-old boy with serious injuries.

Detective Superintendent Nicholas Pedro said: “We would like to thank those members of the public who have come forward so far as we recognise that we are reliant on the public to help make us all safer.”

The incident happened about 5.45pm on Friday at the car park opposite the Southampton Rangers Sports Club field on South Road.

The 16-year-old was robbed of a gold-coloured chain before he was knifed.

Mr Pedro appealed to anyone who was on South Road or on the public beaches & trails on Friday evening between 5.30pm and 6.15pm to contact police.

Anyone with information should contact Detective Sergeant Clifford Roberts at the Criminal Investigations Unit on 211.
