The 39-year-old was taken to hospital for treatment.

Officers went to a home on East Shore Road at about 1.05am on Saturday, police said, “following a report of a male prowler”.

“He was conscious and breathing.

“Emergency services were immediately notified. EMTs attended and conveyed the injured man via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where, at last check, he continued to receive treatment for his injuries.”

A police spokesman said yesterday: “It is believed the victim may have sustained his injuries at another location and was seeking to avoid his attackers when he was seen by residents of East Shore Road who thought he was a prowler and called police.”
