Father’s Day fight ends in arrests, injuries, sword seizure

Two men were arrested last night after a fight ended with two people injured and a samurai sword being seized.

A police spokesman said officers and emergency medical service personnel were called to a disturbance at South Avenue, Southampton at about 9.30pm.

They discovered that people from two separate residences got into an argument that escalated and eventually spilt over onto the roadway.

The argument became physical when a woman was struck in the head with a blunt object.

She sustained a minor injury and was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment before being discharged.

Another man sustained a minor shoulder injury but refused medical attention.

Two men were arrested for affray and the sword was seized. Both remained in police custody the next day.

Police have started an investigation, with eyewitnesses and others with information urged to call the main police number, 295-0011, or 211.
