Police have arrested a man in connection with a suspected knife crime.

The man was detained by police outside The A1 MarketPlace on Valley Road, Paget, at about 9pm on Tuesday, witnesses said.

Police said they were dispatched to the supermarket at approximately 8.52pm following a report that a male in possession of a knife, was inside the premises.

Officers located the 35-year-old suspect and recovered the knife he had in his possession.

There were no reported injuries.

The suspect was arrested and taken to the Hamilton Police Station, where he remains detained.
