Man in critical condition, licensed arms holder in custody
A man was in critical condition last night after a firearms incident in Pembroke, where someone was “exterminating” chickens, and has since been taken into custody.
Initial information suggested that a 42-year-old was riding a motorcycle along Hurst Crescent when he lost control of the vehicle and fell on to the roadway.
However, upon arrival at the scene at about 5.20pm, officers were informed that a licensed firearms holder discharged a firearm while exterminating chickens in the area.
A projectile reportedly struck the motorcycle rider in the head. He was found unresponsive but breathing.
The man was transported by ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where at last check, he was listed in critical condition.
The licensed firearms holder was taken into police custody. The firearm involved has been seized.
The Bermuda Police Service have appealed for witnesses.
A spokesman said: “An investigation into this matter is now under way and anyone with information, or who may have witnessed the incident, is asked to contact the serious crime unit on 295-0011.”
