Bermuda wrapped up the 2026 Caribbean Junior Road Cycling Championships in Belize with two more medals yesterday, taking their tally to four for the event.

Dylan Eiselt produced a strong ride to pick up his second silver of the championships in the 62.4-kilometre men’s juvenile road race, with team-mate Jens Drea claiming bronze. Jonah MacGuinness was also in the mix, finishing tenth for Bermuda after recovering from a crash.

Eiselt completed the race in 1hr 58min 24sec, 1:39 behind Ahmaad Cherrington, of Belize, who took gold. A day after finishing fourth in the time-trial, Drea was just 0.27 behind Eiselt, while MacGuinness clocked 2:07:37.

In the 93.6-kilometre junior men’s race, Jacob Wright showed great determination to finish sixth. The time-trial silver medal-winner and Keon Stevens crashed early in the race, but Wright got up, completed his remaining laps and crossed the finish line in 2:54:17.

Belize took the top two with Devyn Major winning the race ahead of Keith Enwright Jr. Ryan Thompson, from Cayman Islands, the winner of the time-trial, was third.

Stevens was taken to hospital for treatment of abrasions and an X-ray as a precaution. Team officials later confirmed he did not suffer any fractures.

Bermuda Bicycle Association president Peter Dunne believes the youngsters gave the region a glimpse of how strong cycling development is on island.

“It was a day of mixed fortunes for the team, with Dylan and Jens on the juvenile men’s podium and then Jacob and Keon crashing on lap one of the junior men’s event,” Dunne said.

“While Jacob put in a huge effort to regain and stay with the leaders of the race until the last few laps, Keon was taken to the hospital for an X-ray and bandaging. Thankfully, he had nothing broken other than some bike parts.

“What the guys did demonstrate is the depth of cycling talent we have. Jonah crashed about halfway through the juvenile event, but finished strong despite his brake rotor rubbing.

“We leave Belize on Monday with four medals and more importantly five cyclists who are eager to do even more in this sport. This is a win for the sport and for the individuals.

“As always, the success of the team is achieved with the strong support of Che’quan Richardson and Darren Glasford.”
