Rider dies in Sandys collision

Bermuda recorded its fifth road fatality of the year after a rider succumbed following a two-vehicle collision in Sandys today.

The Bermuda Police Service said that at 4.17pm, officers and other first responders responded to the scene of the collision on Somerset Road near the junction with Westside Road in Sandys.

A spokeswoman said while details were limited, the incident involved a taxi and a motorcycle.

The rider succumbed at the scene while the female taxi driver was not believed to have been injured.

Traffic diversions were in place and westbound traffic was being redirected onto Sound View Road, while eastbound traffic was being diverted onto Scotts Hill Road as police processed the scene.

Witnesses are urged to contact the Roads Policing Unit of the BPS on 247-1788.
