A motorcyclist was treated for head injuries last night after being involved in a road traffic collision, police said.

A spokesman said officers were called to Palmetto Road, Devonshire, near Tynes Bay at about 10.25pm after receiving reports of a crash between a motorcycle and a car.

The motorcyclist was conscious and alert when police arrived, despite receiving a head injury, and was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment. The driver of the car was unharmed.

The roadway was closed for about two hours while officers processed the scene.

Traffic diversions were held at the junction of Barker’s Hill and North Shore Road, as well as Parsons Lane and Palmetto Road.
