A crashed car on Harbour Road caused long tailbacks this morning in Paget after the vehicle struck the Lower Ferry Building.

The driver of a Kia Picanto lost control of the vehicle shortly before 7am and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment for minor injuries.

Rush-hour traffic was diverted for about two hours and police reported “significant delays” as vehicles travelling east were forced to take Middle Road at the junction of Harbour Road and Chapel Road.

Motorists travelling westbound were diverted on to South Road at the junction of Harbour Road and Lovers Lane.

A video online showed the damaged car and a demolished pink wall at the ferry passenger waiting area with rubble strewn down the steps.

There was extensive damage to the front of the Kia and both the driver-side and front-passenger air bags had deployed.

A police spokesman said: “Reports are that the car was travelling in an easterly direction when it appears the driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a roadside wall near the Lower Ferry stop.”
