More than 50 drivers were ticketed by police in one day as officers worked with Transport Control Department staff at the West End.

Police yesterday issued 55 moving violation tickets — 27 of which were for speeding, with one driver caught travelling at 90 kilometres per hour and a woman riding an e-bike clocked at 67km/h.

There were a further 23 tickets for seatbelt offences, seven of which went to minibus drivers, followed by four window tint offences and one ticket for having no driver's licence.

Two people were arrested, a police spokesman said — a 20-year-old man found with “a large knife as well as a quantity of suspected drugs”, and a driver with five outstanding traffic warrants.

Inspector Anthony Smith of the tactical operations division said: “Persons riding electric bikes should be aware that they are subject to the same traffic laws as they relate to speeding for any other vehicle.

“Persons operating these vehicles can expect to be ticketed if found travelling at excessive speeds.”

He reminded the community that e-bikes must be licensed and insured by October 31, under regulations announced this month.
