Nearly 100 speeding tickets issued over Hallowe’en weekend
The Bermuda Police Service said speeding continues to be a concern as more than 100 tickets were issued for traffic offences over the Hallowe’en weekend.
A spokesman said 94 of 108 tickets issued to motorists between 4pm on Friday and Sunday morning were for speeding.
Eight were arrested for various offences, including three on outstanding warrants as well as two for care and control of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol or drug.
One person was arrested for dangerous driving and driving while disqualified by age while another was arrested for assault on police.
Despite the ongoing heightened BPS presence, speeding persists on the roads, the spokesman said.
Superintendent Arthur Glasford said: “While ticketing offending motorists is part of traffic enforcement, our officers are focused on reducing the overall speed of road users and making Bermuda’s roads safer.
“Traffic fines are there as a deterrent and to ultimately change behaviour.
“Also, members of the public may not always be aware that traffic stops can, from time to time, result in the identification of other offences, or the gathering of information that may be relevant to ongoing police investigations.”
