George & Dragon pub on the market for $1.55m

The George & Dragon in St George's

If you are looking for a historic pub in a great location - the George & Dragon in St George’s is looking for a buyer.A spokesman for the pub, located in the heart of King’s Square, says there are no plans to reopen it this season. He confirmed it’s on the market now for $1.55 million.A company managed by W Paul King of Long Botham Boats Ltd (operator of Henry VIII Restaurant) took over the former Freddie’s restaurant several years ago from long-time owner Allan Powell, who had it on the market for $2 million. But it was closed in late 2009 and hasn’t reopened since.A spokesman for the pub said simply, there was “a lack of traffic” in the Old Town.“We were not getting sufficient people in St George’s,” he said, adding the lack of a hotel, regular cruise ships, and insufficient transport from town and Dockyard had all contributed. He called St George’s a “jewel”, and said the pub needs someone with energy and ambition to breathe new life into it.This historic building is listed with Dale Young Properties and is described as being in “excellent move-in condition” with “three business opportunities” (restaurant, retail floor and bar). The upper floor has a large open dining area, small bar with cedar French doors leading to a coverd patio dining area. The ceiling is high with exposed beams. There are rest rooms, a large kitchen, storage area and office. Then the ground floor offers “the perfect setting for a sports tavern” with bar, walk-in fridge and wiring for all purposes including video streaming. There is a small building attached to the main building - previously used as a deli.
