Bring the killer to justice

Rico Furbert,(left) 25, and Haile Outerbridge, 34, were both fatally shot inside Belvin's Variety grocery store on Happy Valley Road.

Shocking, callous, inhumane. Words like this are easily bandied about when murders happen — all too frequently — in Bermuda. But in the case of the incident at Belvin’s, there are no words that are sufficient to adequately describe what took place. It was just a cold-blooded double killing. The image on the front page of this newspaper is truly unbelievable — what has happened in Bermuda that allows this? This type of incident is threatening to cripple this country yet this newspaper senses that people are becoming almost immune to it, such is the regularity of headline grabbing violent crime. And although police have had some extremely good results in getting killers and murderers off our streets, there is a sense that as a community there is still not the strength of feeling or determination to help eradicate this problem altogether by providing the necessary evidence. This newspaper knows that there are factors that inhibit people from coming forward, but there are channels available, such as Crime Stoppers, that allow for safe and confidential handling of information. There are only two things left to say: call Crime Stoppers on 800-8477 and bring this killer to justice.
