Education Ministry is on the move

Ministry of Education staff began the first phase of their move from Hamilton to St David’s over the weekend.

Education Minister Dame Jennifer Smith announced the move in February, amid widespread cost-cutting measures prompted by a reduced budget. She said that money would be saved by relocating the Department and Ministry of Education from various sites scattered around Hamilton to Southside, St David’s.

A truck could be seen outside Ministry headquarters on Dundonald Street on Friday afternoon labelled “Dame Jennifer’s office furniture”.

Asked for an update on the move East, a Ministry spokeswoman confirmed: “Phase one of the move is taking place this weekend and sees one-half of the Dundonald Street staff relocate.

“The move will occur in four phases to relocate the three buildings we presently occupy.”
