The Bermuda Education Network (BEN) and various law firms launched a summer programme this week to introduce teenage public school students to the legal profession.The ‘Law Springboard’ is aimed at Berkeley and CedarBridge S2 and S3 students and will provide teenagers with insight into law as a career.In a press release, BEN said each student was assigned to a law firm or legal department, where they spent mornings under the supervision of a lawyer.“While in the office, students shadowed lawyers and completed modules designed to introduce the rudiments of the trial process and the Bermuda legal system.“In the afternoons, students attended workshops held at the Bermuda Insurance Institute and received training on debating and examination of witnesses,” said the release.Today, the students will apply what they have learned from the week’s activities in a mock trial that will be held at Conyers Dill and Pearman.The programme is sponsored by Conyers Dill and Pearman, Cox Hallett Wilkinson and Sedgwick Chudleigh.Other participating firms and organisations included Charter Chambers, the Department of Public Prosecutions and the Ministry of Justice.Useful website: www.ben.bm.
