BHS reports 91 percent success rate in 2012 IGCSE results

Bermuda High School for Girls has reported a 91 percent success rate in its IGCSE results this summer.The percentage of students claiming at least five passes at Grade A* to C is the highest of those announced in Bermuda so far, although it falls short of last year’s 94 percent for BHS.Head of School Linda Parker said in a statement: “I am delighted with our IGCSE results for this past academic year.“I am proud of our students and the results are a reflection of their self-discipline, strong work ethic and focus on attaining their goals.”Forty percent of the papers written were awarded grades of A* or A with, 67 percent receiving grades of A*, A or B.Brittney Ferreira and Julia Hopkin both received A* grades in all nine subjects, the first time two students have attained the maximum score in the same year.Rachel Daly got eight A* grades and one A, Isabelle Stone got six A* grades and two A grades and Wendy Tuxworth got four A* grades and five A grades.Mrs Parker said: “It is our belief that every student can excel and these students have certainly risen to the challenge.“I would like to thank our hard-working, qualified teaching staff for their unwavering commitment to raising every student to meet these high academic standards.”The Royal Gazette has previously reported Saltus Grammar School Year 11 students scored an 89 percent success rate, and Warwick Academy 86 percent. The worldwide average was 69 percent.
