School prepares for ‘Olympiad’ day of fundraising
St George’s Preparatory School hopes to come a step closer tomorrow to realising its dream of building a community sports court.
The school is to host a day of “outrageously fun events” during which teams compete to raise the most points and funds.
The Olympiad sports-themed community fun day is part of a plan to raise $100,000 to build a multifunctional sports court.
PTA president Marlo Santiago said: “We have received generous support from quite a few local companies towards covering a portion of the overhead generated by putting on this event.
“We really want to have fun, build family, school and community relationships, engage in healthy, sport-related activities and highlight the history and heritage of sports in individual families, within the school and the local community.”
Students created posters depicting well known sports figures linked to the school to be displayed at the event.
School principal Mary Lodge said: “I am excited and very grateful for the amazing team work of my PTA executive, parents and staff. It is going to be a fun day and we hope many families will join us.
“To anyone not familiar with our beautiful school grounds it will serve as an introduction to our facility. When the multipurpose sports court opens next school year we welcome the community to share the facility after school.”
The event runs from 2pm until 6pm and will include skipping and netball demonstrations.
