Bermuda College may soon offer child care services

Bermuda College is looking to offer child care services for students and teachers, according to a recent planning application. The application, received by the Planning Department in March, proposes changing a single-storey residential building at 41 College Road into a day care facility. The building, located to the southeast of the College’s campus, is surrounded by dense vegetation and is not easily visible from the college or the nearby Coco Reef Resort. The planning application includes some interior renovations to the building to create four separate classrooms for children. The completed facility will also include a kitchen and two bathrooms — one for children and one for the staff at the facility. The site has parking spaced for ten cars, but the application notes that the building is near to the college where parking spaces are more plentiful.Once opened, the facility would operate as a day care between 8am and 5.30am between Monday and Friday, taking care of as many as 23 children and employing around seven staff members. It would also remain open between 5.30am and 10pm Monday through Thursday to offer childcare services while night classes take place at the college. The application also states: “The day care and after-hours childcare are intended to serve the Bermuda College staff and students, who will be given priority over other members of the public.”
